I have an off-white skirt with lace sections, some of which are yellowing. What can I do to take the yellow out?

You can use bleach if it's made of string. If it's not, use diluted baking soda and rinse.
You can use an Oxyclean type of product.
you can try hydrogen peroxide or very diluted bleach
This is a really tough issue...I guess maybe because I have very hard water....but I have not had a lot of luck in this process. You may want to see if a professional can work on this if the garment is something very sentimental like a bridal veil or wedding dress. If you have nothing to lose, you can see if these things work:
What sometimes works seems to depend on the fabric and the age of the yellowing....
WARNING....do not use bleach if the skirt is a color as you stand a chance to ruin it if the bleach splatters. Also DO NOT use bleach if you think the lace is nylon, has any nylon in it or any spandex in it as bleach will totally ruin the lace.
If the lace is cotton or polyester you have a better chance of success.
Only do this if the whole skirt is white and still be careful for splatters...if the lace is hanging from the body of the skirt not overlaid..you can try to carefully dip the lace part in straight bleach for a few minutes--working a section at a time and rinsing in cold water.
You can try an Oxy product...depending on the fabric, but following the directions exactly. WARNING....If the skirt part is not color safe....meaning it has or might bleed, do not use Oxy products. If can safely use this method, mix a little water into some Oxy and spray or rub it directly onto the lace part, let it sit overnight and wash as usual.
There is a product called Zout that works good on linens and cottons, I have not used it polyester....not remembering if it is safe for that. If you use it, follow the directions exactly. Dry the item outside if possible as sun also has a bleaching affect.
Good luck!
Most likely your off-white skirt is all or mostly cotton and the lace is polyester or other man-made material and that is why it is yellowing and the skirt is not.
Almost any "bleach" type of product may only make the lace more yellow or turn your off-white shirt to white or sploshed white.
Oxi Clean may be one of the few products that would work but I would be sure all powder was dissolved before placing skirt in container/washer. Also, try moving skirt around several times while soaking so it is not just laying in one place. Wash in hottest water your garment can stand and hang in sun to dry if possible.
Believe it or not but in the olden days, my mother used buttermilk to whiten stained clothes - soaked, rinsed and dried in the sunshine. Everyone says it worked..
This link may have something you can use.
