Lane Cedar Chest Value?

Lane Cedar Chest Value - beautiful dark finish chest with turned legsThis belonged to my husband's grandmother, who was born in 1911 and married in 1928. It's in fantastic shape with the original finish. The inside is pristine and doesn't even look like it's been used. One piece of wood veneer on the bottom is missing where the serial number had been. The style number in the card says 44841. I assume she had it when she married. Any ideas as to the year it was made and possible value?

I found your exact Lane and it is attributed to 1929. You have the model number in your post. If there is a serial number, you should be able to confirm this (it should have 6 or 7 digits--if it is 7, drop the last digit as that is the plant where it was made):

In some markets, because it is unusual and pristine, you may fetch up to 300 dollars (retail) for it! That is great since most of the Lane we see on this site are newer and in used condition.

Furniture sales are very regional so you will want to try to sell it in the largest market you can to get the most exposure and the most money for it. If you are in or near a big city that has big old homes, I would market it there.

Since these are hard to sell quickly, my recommendation would be to find a good dealer (antique/vintage/furniture reseller) and have them either buy it outright or consign it for you. You will get a little less, but get it the most exposure!

Thanks for sharing this lovely piece!!

If you are looking to sell the chest it is a good idea to sell it locally through a dealer and not online. This way you avoid the shipping cost and they can be expensive for a large item like this.

Today people are listing these chest online starting at $200 and all the way to $300.

The serial number read backwards tells the date of manufacture. If you are missing that number, you may be out of luck. Your chest is worth in the $225 range.

I have a very similar Lane chest. It also only has a style number, not a serial number. (Mine is 48879.) I believe it is from the 1920s. Did you ever get more information on yours?
