I have a John Deere 100 series lawn tractor. I started it up after a long period of inactivity. It only ran for a while, backfired loudly, shut off, and won't start again. What could be wrong?

You have a problem with your carburetor. You have left fuel in your engine too long. You will need to clean the carburetor and the gunk inside the carburetor. You might need to take the carburetor apart to clean this.
Make sure the fuel lines are clear.
