It took almost a year to sprout. After 6 months it was doing great, but now it's leaves are turning brown, spotting, and there are brown lesions on the stem. Please help.

I would put it in a larger pot.
This often happens with salt in the soil. Yes salt,some soils may have too much. Also give it a thorough water making sure that it goes completely through,reaching all roots.
You can clip the worst of the brown spots off and change the water from tap to distilled and it should come back.
These are temperamental plants. Also try not to over water, just water when the dirt is dry.
