My den ceiling lights and several outlets stopped working, as did the lights and outlets in two basement rooms. The electrical outlets are still firing when checked and no circuits appear to have tripped. What might be the problem?

If you haven't already, turn the breakers off and on. Sometimes they don't appear to be tripped, but are. Next, check and make sure you don't have a ground fault breaker on teh circuit that is tripped--even check outside. We have one outside our garage that is on the same circuit as our kitchen. If it trips, my refrigerator quits. Then, use a meter and check--sometimes breakers go bad and need to be replaced. If not, call an electrician.
In a breaker box a fuse can go bad and it won't trip a breaker. You'll need a volt meter to check all the fuses in the breaker box to see which ones are bad.
