Model Magic clay is such a great clay for children because it is a no-mess air dry, foamy clay that is very easy to use especially when applying to a simple, inexpensive Bic pen or even to a pen you may already have at your home. This is a simple project and you can cover numerous pens with one package of clay.
Approximate Time: 15-30 minutes
Once you have decided on the color you would like your pen to be, cut enough clay to roll into a 1 inch ball. Roll the clay out 1 inch wide, 6 inches long and 1/4 inch thick.
Trim all the sides so they have clean straight edges.
Place the pen on the edge of clay, lining up the end of pen barrel with the edge of the clay and roll the clay around the pen until the two sides meet.
Cut a straight line trimming off the excess clay so both sides of the clay meet. Then roll the pen back and forth smoothing the seams.
Trim all but an eighth inch of the excess clay at the bottom of the pen. Wrap this around the bottom of the pen as well as any excess clay at the top of the pen.
Once your pen has been covered, then you can roll small balls of different colors of clay and press them onto your pen. You can then press small beads, buttons, or gems into your pen for an extra added touch.
Let air dry for 24 to 48 hours and it is ready to use!
They make nice Christmas or birthday presents for children to give to their friends. They can be personalized by pressing something personal into each pen, like decorative buttons.
This is so cool! What a great no-mess project for many ages!
Adorable! This is a great idea for fun time with my grandchildren. :) Thumbs up!
