Try using flat stones, bricks or tiles.

I was thinking of making salt dough stepping stones and then seal them well with maybe polyurethane and using them. I have done the home made salt dough handprint and sealed them and have had them on my wall in sunlight for years, so I'm not sure how they will hold up in weather, but I am going to try this I believe.
