Making a Badge for a Backpack?

Do I use heavy stiff fabric to embroider a badge?

It depends on what medium you are using to embroider the badge. If you are using a sewing machine, use the heavier fabric since the electric machine will be able to successfully power through the fabric and do the embroidery.

If you are doing the embroidery by hand, though, you will find it easier to create the badge using a fabric the needle and floss can easily go through. After the embroidery is finished you can use a fusible iron-on stabiliser to stiffen up the badge.
