Measuring Dry Macaroni?

I need to make 2 lbs of pasta. So am I correct to say that's three 12 ounce boxes?

Pasta doubles when cooked. Prepare one 1-pound box.

I started out as a home ec major and the rule I learned was:

One pound of uncooked pasta only weighs slightly more than a pound when cooked (like 1 lb 6 ounces), so if you need 2 pounds of pasta you would need a two pound box.

2 pounds is 32 ounces, so 3 12-ounce boxes is 36 ounces so it would be a little over 2 pounds.
