I found this at garage sale yesterday. I'm wondering if I should paint this or not. If it has any history or value I won't. I'm an artist and I buy pieces like this to fix and sell.

Mersman made very good furniture, but it is not as popular a brand as Lane, Ethan Allen and other well-known brands.
For example; usually, a Lane coffee/surfboard table in the same condition will usually sell for quite a bit more than same style in Mersman. But, shipping is expensive, so sometimes location decides the actual value.
Usually, Lane and some other popular brands will sell faster than Mersman.
This site shows some recent Mersman tables and their sold prices.
This is a good example of what good condition, similar tables may be worth, but, it seems that buyers like the longer style coffee tables and I did not see the length of your table.
It appears you got a terrific deal and since you are an artist, you are probably chomping at the bits to get started on doing your thing.
It appears that painted furniture sells for very high prices on some sites, especially Etsy, so it's my thinking that doing a 'one of a kind' could increase the value.
Perhaps, you could post a picture when you finish your table.
Tks yes Im ready to make this merman shine!
Great!
