My son drank an entire bottle of milk while sitting on the couch. He then smiled and at and vomitted all over the couch! I got most of the white off using vinegar water, but the smell won't go away!

This is what I've had to do -
Heavily sprinkle pet carpet deodorizer on the area and let sit for a short time. The just vacuum it up! You may have to do this a couple of times - if so, let the second "dose" sit for a while longer or even rub the deodorizer in with a damp rag. Let it dry and vacuum again. That should do it. :)

If it penetrated the actual cushion you may have a harder time getting rid of the smell, but keep trying. I had to saturate a cushion to get to the center to neutralize this smell when my daughter was young. Then I let it air dry outside in the warm sun for a few days. Then to be sure it was dry all the way through, I put the cover back on and I tumble dried it at the laundromat with fabric softener sheets. I think the heat helped kill the odors that the vinegar water didn't neutralize. Good luck. (03/23/2005)

What can be worse than cat pee odors other than that old spoiled milk/vomit smell. Try spraying the chair with a mixture of vinegar, pinesol and a scented liquid soap. Let it dry thoroughly, and then use some febreeze spray. I know it is hard to work through all that, but it beats trying to run out buying new furniture. Another thought, after you have thoroughly gotten rid of the smell. Try child-proofing your couches.
If the cushions have zippered covers. Take all of the cushions out, and wrap the cushions in large plastic trash bags, tape tight as possible. And then put the cushions back in.
Not only will you have waterproofed the cushions, but I recall how everytime i sat in my chair, it felt as tho' i was sitting in an "overstuffed chair". And boy, that was such a relaxed feeling, especially after a hard day at work... Good luck! (03/31/2005)

My baby vomited on our rental unit carpet. I first washed the area with detergent twice to remove the vomit. The smell was almost worse afterwards. I then tried Baking Soda after it was dry on the floor, left it over night and vacummed in the morning. I then dosed the carpet area with Febreeze and the Smell is gone. It actually smells nice like Febreeze. Hope this might actually help someone and save someone from having to tear up the carpet which a few readers suggested. Cheers.(01/07/2006)
