Let's play a game. It is believed that when you find a four leaf clover you'll find luck. So, I just thought of making a shamrock hat - a fancy green hat filled with these teeny weeny clover leaves. For a St. Patrick's day celebration find your lucky clover in it.
Supplies:
- art paper colored green, yellow and black
- 2 shades of green art paper cut into 1x1 inch squares
- glue
- bottle cap
- marker/pen/pencil
- scissors
Steps:
- To make a clover leaf, take 1 square of green paper and fold diagonally. It will become a triangle.
- Fold again to form a smaller triangle.
- Cut a tiny heart shape out of it.
- Open the folds after cutting and it should look like this.
- Make more of these, as many as you can.
- Remove 1 leaf on most of the clovers, but leave some untouched. This will be the lucky clover leaves. You can write "lucky" at the back to make it more fun.
- Cut thin strips out of some of the 1x1 green paper.
- Now, glue each strip onto each piece of clover. Set aside.
- Let's make the basket. Cover the cap neatly with green art paper.
- Cut a strip of black paper about 3 inches long and a tiny rectangle of yellow paper for the belt. Cut small slots and slide the buckle onto the belt.
- Wrap it around the body of the cap and glue in place.
- Then draw two circles, one is smaller and inside the big one.
- Cut out the pattern. Inside the small circle, cut it like a pizza. Pull the triangles up.
- Insert this into the opening of the cap and secure with glue.
- Now, you have the hat. Cover the inside with tiny clipping and pour in a small amount of white or hot glue.
- Cut another black strip for the handle and glue into place.
- Start planting the clover inside the hat. Arrange well and start looking for the lucky 4 leaf clovers.
