Miniature Poodle Won't Eat?

Is anyone having trouble feeding their miniature Poodle? He doesn't like hardly anything. I have given him chicken, rice, and dry dog food put in a food processor. Then I have to feed him with a spoon. I've tried every dry food and canned food, even the pouches and he doesn't like them. Have you ever seen a dog turn down treats, mine does, including steak or anything. The vet even tried to give him this canned food that he said he would love. Guess what? He wouldn't eat it.

His father was like that, as well. I asked the breeder why is he so skinny. She would respond, "He has food over there, he just doesn't want to eat." When she told me that I got scared. I started feeding him. He still goes around and looks for food everything he has and he has a lot he doesn't want. How do I find what he wants to eat? Are there any poodle people out there having my problem? He is perfectly healthy always. Has all his shots and vet visits at least 2 times a year. She says he is very healthy. What do I do? I'm at my whits end; I love this dog so much.

When my girls were tiny babies I went through days where they would not eat. One is a poodle and the other is a poodle mix. I bought Nutri-Cal Dietary Supplements. This stuff is excellent to stimulate appetite and provide energy for finicky eaters. My girls loved this stuff and looked forward to their daily dose.

I gave them the squeeze tube gel. They did start eating and are very healthy to this day. They are both nine years old. You can purchase at www.petedge.com You will find it under supplements. I don't know what state you live in but you probably can find it at PetsMart and Petco or your local pet store.

I have a 5 yr old Shih-Tzu who eats no kind of dog food and very little people food. The strange thing is one day I find something she likes say chicken hearts boiled and chopped fine she will lick it clean and the next day turns her nose up at it and begs me to feed her. Every evening from 5 to 8:30 her bedtime I am a nervous wreck fixing a smorgasbord of foods for her so she will stop pawing at me and dog talking to me like feed me I dont like that. Tonight she ate plain rice for the first time but which I have offered to her many times. She is a precious adopted dog and I love her dearly but she is stressing me out and running me broke

Give your dog real dog food. Raw organic chicken wings to start with. Cook some mixed fresh vegetables as well. Put a teaspoon of barley green powder into vegetables

Dogs are like people. They like real food.
Forget dry food. Read the ingredients. I wouldnt eat it so I wont feed my dog it either.

Hi there,
Not sure how you are going with your poodle? I just saw this post, so I'm not sure if you have solved your feeding issue with your poodle? I have a 12 month old apricot mini poodle. He is shocking to feed. I tried everything you can imagine to feed him; wet, dry, homemade, barf, everything, he hated it all. He is very underweight too.

I've been buying raw chicken mince carcass and mixing it with steamed vegetables. He has that, very reluctantly, in the morning. At night, I leave out for him to nibble on Royal canine puppy dry food, which he would sometimes eat. A week ago he stopped eating his food, again. He is so thin, so I asked the pet food shop what I could do to fatten up my dog.

She advised I buy him minced (raw) lamb and other fatty off cuts, but she had sold out of that meat.

I went to my local butcher and asked him if he had and lamb, beef, chicken, whatever off cuts he could mince up for me. He did! I went home and gave some to Olli and he loved it! Happiness!

At last, I have found something fatty and somewhat healthy for him, which will hopefully put weigh on him. I also changed his dry food to Advance super premium dry dog food. It is an Australian brand dry dog food. He will nibble on that at night. I just hope he gains weight because he is far too skinny for my liking. I hope this post will help.

Hi
I to have a miniature poodle who's not bothered about food
I've tried everything,dry,wet,fish,meat,you name it,my poodle
turns his nose up on bones,,,I just don't get it,the vet said he will

Eat when he's ready,he's with me 24/7 he even sleeps, goes shopping, everything with me so I know he's not getting fed anywhere else,so I'm in the same situation as you,I think it's a poodle thing,I've now got my poodle (Bertie) on boiled rice & tuna
and I cheat by putting in a handful of his kibble (not much) but its something
and low and behold he ate it all up,,try it,it might work for your fur baby,I put 3 table spoons of rice,1 of tuna & 1 handful of kibble
Let me know how you get on

I have a dachshund that does the same thing..She refuses so many dog foods, treats, etc...She's very skinny, and we've taken her to the vet repeatedly. Performed many tests...no answers! I'm so frustrated! She's 7 months old now, and I worry so much about her. The vet has also put her on reglan 3x daily bc she also suffers from constipation. Does your dog have the same issue with that?

I have a 14 year old poodle. He has always weighed between 5 and 6 pounds. The vet said try duck and l give him Wellness Simple duck and oatmeal formula. He eats that but is still not a great eater. The vet says poodles are supposed to be thin and its better than being fat. It still makes me sad he doesnt love to eat

So here I am at 3:30am trying to figure out why my 6mo old miniature poodle refuses to eat also. I have tried Tri Tip steak, chicken, turkey, ground pork, scrambled eggs, ground veal, rabbit, venison, lamb, bison, fish, baby food, raw milk ect. All fresh, or lightly sauted or raw or cooked...makes no difference. I even tried kibble which I am loathed to do knowing how it is made...nope, won't eat that either. She WILL eat people cereal which is full of sugar though...but I am not giving her any. She will eat JUNK food. I gave her a bite of these things just to see if she'd eat it...yep.

She also refuses to be trained...especially coming to me when I call her, and backs up and runs in the other direction 100% of the time. I am getting to my wits end. I thought poodles were smart, but apparently, not smart enough to recognize a banquet when it is laid out for her lol! She has not eaten in two days now...and counting. This is a regular problem for me...I have had to hand feed her to coax her. She will eat four bites before backing away and refusing more...all this while sitting on my lap.
She is with me 24/7, even sleeps on my bed in her soft crate, goes shopping with me, to work with me ect. So she is not afraid of me but knows she is dearly loved. I have to listen to her stomach grumble so loud that it keeps me awake.

I have a 9 y old you poodle, always been hard to please, she is like yours, turns her face away from whatever I offer to her, she is been on cyproheptadine 1/2 a pill at 9 pm, this med helps her to get hungry, her Vet prescribe her this since she was a baby, I cook daily for her, Monday's chicken, Tuesday's steak, Wed chicken gizzards, Thursday Turkey, Friday Ground beef, Sat Chicken liver, and Sundays dry food but I have to feed her like I am giving her meds pushing one pellet at the time into the back of her mouth, at night she gets chicken and I always place dry food by my bed and I can hear her eating sometimes, it is crazy but she is healthy, also she gets vitamins that the vet recommend for her since she is not like to eat much...

I have a 16-1/2 year old poodle. Always made my own food for her. Id boil chicken, carrots, sweet potato, and added diced zucchini for crunch and brown rice. She happily ate that for most of her life. As shes aged, shes lost her sense of smell, sight and taste and more recently started having seizures. I think she has developed some doggie dementia too and now shes basically stopped eating for me. Her blood work came back normal and we are treating the seizures, but her appetite is still so awful. I started hand feeding her baby food from the pouches. They have a turkey pot pie and a chicken and sweet potato she will eat if I feed her, but she wont take from the bowl.
Its hard to get enough nutrients in her when she stops eating on her own, so shes losing weight. I heard about the benefits of bone broth so I will try that. Shes not thriving and not living her best life as a dog, so Im coming to the conclusion that if things dont improve, I may have to make that terrible decision and put her down. Fingers crossed and prayers it wont come to that.

I absolutely have the same problem. My toy apricot poodle is refusing everything: strip steak, chicken breast... I'm afraid. I've even tried Gerber baby food in a syringe. I am desperate. She's going to die of starvation. Three blood tests come back fine. Kidneys OK. Difficult to watch. She wants food. Sometimes if I pre-chew it she'll eat.

My 5yr old toy poodle just the same she is driving me nuts! She likes cat food and cat poo! (I have 2 cats) she snorts at regular dog food and wouldnt eat kibble to save her life. I have no idea how she survives, my friend's dog will eat anything, she buys a large bag of supermarket budget dry food and it lasts ages. I spend pounds I cant afford on my poodle. Vet says she will eat when she is hungry I have yet to see it.

I have a black toy poodle who usually a pretty good eater when we are at home and he is on his normal routine. But when we travel, he stops eating. No matter what we feed him, he turns up his nose. The one thing he will eat is steak and it is hard to get him when we travel and super expensive. I think I will try what what forum suggested and try to train him with 15 minutes and take away his food. And exercise him hard and then offer him reasonable food. I will see if he eats then. I know traveling is hard on him. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
