We were outside today with two dogs and five people. My granddaughter noticed a mother duck on a nest. We soon left the area, but now the mother has been away from the nest of 10 eggs for a couple of hours. Do you think she will return? She seemed stressed while we were there.

Hi,
Mother ducks know if their eggs are good or not. The eggs are probably bad if she doesn't return for them. If they are good, she will return, in time, to have them all hatched at once, within 24 days.
If she doesn't come back, it means they were not meant to be hatched for one reason or another.
Blessings,
---Robyn
A couple of hours is not a long time. She will be back.
The duck was indeed stressed and most of all by your dogs and maybe others birds you did not see were stressed by your dogs. Walking dogs and bird watching are not compatible activities, but as walking your dogs is a pleasure for you and them, I suggest you read the advices of the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) here:
By the way the birds hatch their eggs to keep them at the right temperature. That means that they also hatch their eggs to protect them from being over heated by direct sun rays which can be mortal for the birds inside the eggs within minutes.
