I have a Murray 42 inch/14.5 hp tractor riding mower. I replaced the battery and spark plug, but still will not start.

Hi you have to check the safety switch and the stater solenoid. Sometimes is the safety switch is not sending the signal to start or the starter solenoid is bad. Let me know if that works.
I'm having the same problem I replaced the key switch solenoid battery and still won't turn over unless I use a screwdriver to jump the solenoid
When hooking the battery up and the key is off it turns over
there should be a orange wire going to your solenoid it produces 12v to the solenoid, with all your safety switches engaged turn the key and with a voltage meter have someone test the orange wire it should read 12 volts if not then it is more than likely one of your safety switches, there is also a fuse link there also check the 15amp fuse.
When you say safety switch you mean the fuse under the seat or is there more to it
Check the gear on the starter. I think it's stuck. I was having problems with mine.
Hello,
My neighbor has a Murray 12hp riding mower that he bought used. It ran fine when he brought it home but now all of a sudden it won't start.
Did you check for a 20amp see if it popped try hooking a charger even if the battery shows good power try it see what happens from BigDog
Pull back on blade ingage handle mine did the same

I havery this mower was running fine , but had to jump it every use, I bought a new battery it's charged and now won't turn over or even make a sound,
I had a problem with my Murray,I used a screwdriver & touch those2 bolts on the cylinoid with the key in the start position & the engine roared. I know the cylinoid needs to be replaced but I had to get the grass cut today
