I need help my dog has yeast infection in his ears. I have the medication to put in them, but he will not let us put it in. We got him held down once and now he will not let my husband near him. We tried a muzzle and he will not let me touch him now to put that on.

Help please, he needs this. His ears are so sore and red. He is making them bleed. The vets say to be the boss, well I don't want to be bitten and do not want to hurt him. He is a rescue dog from an abused home and I don't want that to come up to him again.

Can you take your dog for a brisk walk and tire him out a bit? It seems like my dog feels it's a real bonding experience and is particularly docile for awhile. Everything needs to be ready to go for this sneak-attack beforehand. I would use his choker or spiked training collar for the walk, leave it on and then immediately have your husband straddle the dog, holding onto the collar and place his palm over the snout, pushing down while you administer the dose.
He will never like this, but he will condone it after awhile.
Bless you and your husband for taking in a rescue. You're both angels! Let us know how it works out.
My advice is to sit beside the dog and talk to him while petting and massaging his ears. With both of you doing this, give the dog a body massage and one work on the ears as the dog slips into a relaxed mode and keep talking. Do not let the dog see the medicine bottle. You might get at least one ear done before he realizes what has been done.
I see 2 good suggestions that are better than mine would have been. I only would add, nothing that stings, like some would put never ending vinegar in the ears. Please forget that one. I have, for years, done rescue dogs and on occasion have to treat ears. Best i have found is Malaseb. Clears up the most persistent infected ears. The ones with fungal, bacterial and even allergy related infections.
Theres a new treatment the vet can do for your pup at the office they do one dose then a week later another dose and no infections for up at least 6 months my rescue is going through an ear infection right now and he too was from an abusive home so I feel your pain he is fighting me nonstop but I keep trying the best way so far for us has been sneak attack I get him when hes snoozing if possible... we are going Monday for the vet treatment since he is still sick & bites hard over the drops :( I wish they had offered the new treatment first its 75$ each time they do it but at this point its worth it
unfortunately sometimes the only way is to have a vet apply anesthetic and treat
Please give me the name of the new treatment that lasts for a week? My vet does not know what I am talking about.
Yes please. I am having to take Murphy to vet for his ear. He will absolutely not all me to put drops in. That does seem like a solution.
Please le me know the weekly treatment. my dog gets very defensive and bites back but he needs the treatment. We tried our best but we are to the bridge on giving up. Help us!!
Sorry to hear you are struggling with your pup! Im going through the same thing with mine - shes incredibly sweet and gentle until I try to treat, or now even touch, her ear. My vet has treated her with Claro before with success - its a one-time treatment that cleared up the infection right away.
Best treatment ever is Zymox. Available online. Cleared up the yeast infection in a few days...I use a bulb syrynge to apply very quickly.
Trying to find a chewables for ear mites in dogs
Ive read all these frustrating issues I myself have an aggressive 100lb APBT with ear fear lol Id love to take him to Doc but he hates him, I think he remembers that he neutered him. The only way to vet him is I drive to the office and they give me a syringe with happy dope and I go out to the truck shoot his bottom 10-15 minutes later Yayger is totally chilled.
Btw his even been given a script for Valium and 4 10mg first time faze him.
The only problem with the 2 doses at the vets is the cost of 2 vet visits in over a weeks time, get's very expensive just to have a vet put the drops in a dog's ear...just my opinion though
i have the same problem. what is the new treatment? i adked my vet for a sedative for my 100 lb lab. they said 1 or 2 pills. i think i have to try 3. He's not a rescue. He's 2 years old. But it has been a fight from day 1. luckily he hasn't bit yet.
