finished flowerThis is my favorite flower to crochet. They look great on hats, headbands, purses, or as barrettes. There are many versions of this pointy petaled bloom online, here is mine. Have fun!:)

Total Time: About 10 minutes.

Yield: As many as you like!:)

Source: Yarncat's website was my inspiration years ago.

Supplies:

Steps:

  1. Chain 5, join with a slip stitch to your first chain. Chain 1, single crochet in your ring, *chain 3, single crochet in ring*, repeat the steps in the asterisk 5 times, chain 3, join to first single crochet. This is what you should have now.
  2. step one

  3. Slip stitch in the first chain 3 space, chain 2, 3 double crochet, chain 2, slip stitch in the top of the last double crochet, (picot made), 3 double crochet, chain 2, slip stitch in same chain 3 space. This is what you should have now.
  4. step two, adding petals

  5. Now repeat the last step in each chain 3 space around. You will end up with 6 lovely petals. You may end here, or you may continue with another round of petals in the same or a contrasting color.
  6. adding contrasting color thread

  7. I have chosen to add a contrasting color and do a second round. If you want to do the same, join your new yarn in the same space that you finished off the last, chain 2. Look at the first petal to the left of where you are now joined. Turn it towards you so that you are seeing the backside of it. See where the needle is? This is where you will slip stitch.
  8. step 4 back side where to slip stitch

  9. Now, chain 4, and slip stitch in the next little ridge behind the next picot. Do this until you reach the end, where you will now slip stitch in the first chain 4 loop. This is what your flower will look like from behind. 6 lovely chain loops.
  10. step 5, back side

  11. Now, chain 2, 4 double crochet, chain 2, slip stitch in top of the last double crochet made, (picot made), 4 double crochet, chain 2, slip stitch.
  12. Repeat the last step in all 6 loops. When you are done, finish off and weave in your ends. You will end up with a flower about 4 1/2 inches, tip to tip. Enjoy! :)

This is a very pretty flower. I'll have to give it a try and put it on a blanket or bag for my new niece.
