My Shih Tzu Died Suddenly?

My Shih Tzu Died Suddenly? - black and white Shih TzuMy very healthy 13 year old Shih Tzu with no passed health issues passed away suddenly last week. The Thursday he was throwing up three times throughout the day I fed him plain rice and he was eating fine and drinking lots. Friday he was his normal self jumping around barking. Saturday morning he woke up soaked. Ir seemed like a fever and he was foaming from his mouth. We took him to the vet and hewas still foaming and bc of covid we had to wait in our cars for a while, but I demanded he had to go in right away. They told us he had high sodium levels and they were going to put him on an IV to rehydrate him since he hadn't eaten anything Saturday. We weren't allowed inside the vet's office. The next thing we knew was when they called us and said he had passed. What happened? I'm so distraught and can't get passed this. My poor little baby boy.

Normally throwing up and foaming at the mouth is because of what he ate. I am sure he is an indoor dog and you only let him out in your yard to go to the bathroom and he comes right back in. I am not sure if one of your neighbors had thrown something in your yard he could have eaten or if he was just sick and it was his time to go.

There is yet another reason a dog forams the mouth and that is because of heart troubles. If he had low sodium levels this could very well be the issue. I would ask the vet the reason they feel he dies do suddenly. I am more than likely sure they will tell you he had a heart attack or even a seizure. When my dog got to be your dog's age he started to foam at the mouth and had a few seizures. Then all of a suden he was gone and there was nothing I could do about it. I am so sorry for your loss. Please contact your vet and ask them if they determined the cause of death for your dog. This will really ease your mind.

He was ill and didn't want you to see him pass. He wants you to remember his great life , and celebrate it. Because he was at the Vet's office when he passed, they should give you a reasonable reason of what brought this on.

May his little furry memory always be a blessing.

I hope when things settle you can talk to the vet and get a better idea of what may have happened.

So very sorry for your loss.

Many of us have had similar situations and it's always difficult to understand why/how these things happen.
Please keep happy memories of your baby and do not let sadness take them away.

Maybe after all of this virus is in the past you can talk with your vet and hopefully they can explain what happened more clearly.

All vets should have a grief counselor as loved ones need help in dealing with the passing of a loved one.
There are free online pet counseling groups and these can be very helpful in helping people get through the tremendous deluge of bad feelings in not understanding how a death occurred.
Please try contacting one or more of these groups as you will be talking with other people who understand how you are feeling.

I would ask for cause of death from vet or autopsy so you can get over this & don't let it be brushed off. My neighbor's cat came in & vomited what looked like black coffee grounds & died & to this day we wish an autopsy had been done.

You have my sympathy. It is so hard to lose a pet. If the pain of losing a pet is so great & can't imagine losing a child.
