If you grow vegetables in your garden, you need to protect the plants from snails. Snails eat all vegetables, especially greens, such as cabbage, spinach, chard and lettuce. Since they multiply quickly, they can do serious damage.
There are several ways you can get them out of the garden; these are ecological methods that will not contaminate your vegetables in any way.
Manual snail removal: This is one of the simplest and most environmentally friendly ways. It's best to remove the snails in the evening.
Setting baits: Placing physical baits such as certain types of food or drinks can attract snails and make it easier for you to remove them. Try beer, it's enough to bury the plastic cups in the ground so that the edges of the cups are level with the ground and then pour the beer. The smell will attract the snails and they will drown in the beer. One such bait is enough for 15 m2.
Setting up obstacles: Eggshells, ash, tree bark, pine needles, sand - as the snails move by sliding on the slime they secrete, the drying of the soil on which they move will slow them down or completely prevent them from moving.
Use of copper strips: These strips must be at least 5 cm wide. They need to be put into the ground to a depth of 8 cm while their height above the ground is 15-25 cm. The strips should be laid in dry weather. Copper causes a natural reaction to the snail's mucus and thus repels it.
Planting plants that repel snails: Plants that snails don't like (usually because of their smell) and that repel them are: sage, lavender, fennel, garlic, cumin, wormwood, rosemary, thyme.
Snails often attack gardens that are watered in the evening, because the moist soil allows them to move more easily. So, consider watering your garden in the morning.
