It could be a broken microswitch, which is not expensive to replace.

Thank you
So I should take it to a dealer? Or is it something I can replace?

These machines have a lot of functions so even doing a minor "repair" may be more than you can do without help.
- Your Bernina Activa 240 is an older but very good machine and the value still remains high for this machine (still selling for $1000 - $1300). Just thought you might like to know that.
- Bernina is a very good brand but does require a regular cleaning if you use it very much and sometimes a good cleaning will solve a lot of problems.
- Here is a link to download and print a manual - just in case you have misplaced yours.

- I would suggest you visit a craft store such as Michael's or Jo Ann's and ask if they have someone they would recommend to maybe help you with your machine. Very often there are classes held at these stores on how to make things with this type machine so there may be someone that would help you.
- Sometimes a quilting store will have someone that would be able to steer you in the right direction.
- If you decide to take your machine to a repair shop please be sure to check out their reputation before turning over your machine. Michael's or Jo Ann's can help you with that also.
- Check out the Bernina web site as they have lots of information and a lot of sewing tips. Here is a good link.

Here is a link to a site that will answer your question (free) and may be able to tell you if fixing this is an easy "do-it-yourself" job.

Hi there! Here is the manual for your machine:

Also, that same site has a very friendly support and assistance area where you can get help for free. There's an FAQ and forum, too!
