We have a four month old St. Bernard. We have heard don't neuter him until at least 18 months old, but the vet says ASAP. He already has a cherry in one eye and she wants to do the eye surgery at the same time. Someone told me that if I neuter him too soon it will stunt his growth. We are very careful with him. I want him healthy. What do we do?

Some Veterinarians believe pups should be spayed/neutered early as it guarantees the dog will not produce unwanted litters. With male dogs, when they are able to pick up on a female's heat cycle, they roam and can go for miles away and get lost or injured in dog fights over the female or even shot at. So, by having your dog neutered early, you are saving your dog and yourself from dealing with any of these issues.
He is an inside only pet and only goes out on a leash. Really the only issue is his growth. I worry about his joints, etc. if I neuter too soon.
