The best way I have found to get rid of sticker/label residue is a few drops of olbas oil. It slips off with a gentle scrape of the dull side of a knife.

I have an aerosol can of Goo Gone. It cost around $6 or $7, seems expensive, but it really isn't because I've been using the same can for 5+ years! Peel off sticker or label, spray on goo gone. Allow to sit for a little while, them scrub off residue with a scrubber sponge. Rinse with water to remove all residue- good as new. I don't even know what olbas oil is!
Eucalyptus oil is also very effective. Best when far is still hot from hot water immersion.
