Remove the mattress covers (top and bottom); by carefully cutting away along the sides. You may have to use pliers to remove staples holding the top and bottom onto the springs. Using scissors, cut away all of the side panels; leaving a cleanly cut top and bottom. Use these, folded over, and covered with an old comforter, as dog beds in the winter. This leaves you with all those lovely springs with which to do other crafts.

Entry;
Tired of the high cost of baby powder? I took an old bottle of the cornstarch and aloe (+ third ingredient I can't remember with still a little of the contents left in it), carefully - - using a very sharp-tipped and sturdy knife, popped the top off, along with that inner forked powder spinner inside it. (Work very slowly and deliberately) Then I put in a funnel and spooned in mounds of plain old cornstarch. One has to work the cornstarch down into the bottle by using the handle of the spoon to poke down into the shaft of the funnel.
