Diamond Post Medal for All Time! 1,246 Posts I adore this recipe for this decadent dessert because not only is it made in one pan, but it includes ingredients like leftover white sandwich bread and old apples. Believe me when I say it does NOT taste like it. Please try this simple recipe for a beautiful dessert.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 3 medium apples
- 2 Tbsp maple syrup
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 3 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 4-5 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
- 1 tsp sugar
- sour cream for serving (optional)
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 400F. Peel, core, and chop apples into sixths.
- In an 8 inch ovenproof pan or cast iron pan, arrange the apples snugly. Add the maple syrup, honey and 2 tablespoons of the butter and bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender, about 5 minutes.
- Uncover and cook over high heat, until the liquid is evaporated and the apples are caramelized, about 5 minutes.
- Spread remaining one tablespoon of butter on one side of the bread slices.
- Lay the bread slices on top of the apples. I tuck the sides down over the apples.
- Sprinkle buttered bread with the sugar.
- Bake for about 20 minutes, until the bread is toasted.
- Invert the Apple Charlotte onto a plate.
- Cut into wedges and serve warm with a dollop of sour cream. I use sour cream because the tartness of the apple cuts nicely through the thickness and whipped cream would make it too sweet. Enjoy!

Love it! So many apple recipes need cinnamon, which I am allergic. Simple and safeand sounds delicious!
