Can anybody tell me what the origin of this mask is? Is this from Africa? A tribal mask? Do you know what type of wood this is? It's very dark, hard wood and heavy. The dimensions are 29 x 11 inches at the widest point. Would anybody know what the value of this mask would be? It is definitely hand carved and would anybody have an idea how old it is? Thank you very much.

I think you would need to go to a dealer who specializes in African goods.
This piece would need further investigation, this piece may be hand carved but is it a true piece to it's origin. Time for the professionals.
Masks are very difficult to research because it is difficult to even tell what country they are from - similar masks were made for all type of ceremonies as well as for the tourist trade.
This looks like it would be a decorative wall piece to me but I'm not familiar with these so I'm just saying that I've seem similar ones for sale in tourist shops.
You may be able to ask your question on one of these sites as their groups have some knowledge about masks in general.

It's hard to find the exact same mask, but your mask looks like an African tribal mask. Elongated, with slits for the eyes, long straight nose. Here are African masks with similar features: www.ebay.com/
Thank you that was helpful
