Outlet Stopped Working

Why did the electrical outlet in my bathroom stop working? Can they go bad?

Yes they can go bad and it's inexpensive to replace. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and you can get a new one. Just be sure to turn off the electric current that flows into that plug in at the fuse box first. (11/11/2010)

Bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor outlets have to be ground fault by electrical code. Your outlet may be of this type. If it is you will find a small button usually located between the upper plug holes and the lower plugs holes. This little button has to be pushed in. Sometimes there is a small light to indicate if there is power or not. If your home is old it may not have this safety feature and you should have an electrician install ground fault outlets everywhere I have mentioned above. It prevents you getting a shock by shutting down the electricity to that plug. (11/12/2010)
