kindle in pouch 1I recently made a Padded iPad Pouch and the pattern also included directions for making a Kindle Pouch. It is perfect for protecting your Kindle!

These instructions are for a button and loop closure option. You can use Velcro instead if you want.

Steps:

  1. This pattern consists of three pieces, the "front", the "back/flap", and the "lining". Pin the pattern to the fabrics you chose.

  3. Be sure to copy all pattern markings onto the fabric using a pin or knotted piece of thread.

  5. Cut out the "front", "back", "flap", and "lining" pieces.

  7. You will also need to cut out the batting material for the "front" and "back/flap".

  9. Pin the "front" and "back/flap" pieces to their respective batting pieces. Baste around both pieces, about 1/4 inch from edge. Trim batting to fit.

  11. Now pin the "front" to the "back/flap", right sides together. Sew them together with a 3/8" seam allowance. Starting and stopping at the clip marks on the pattern pieces. Remove basting threads.

  13. Clip the curves. Then turn it right side out and press.

  15. Fold the lining at the bottom fold line, with right sides together. Sew along sides, leaving an opening at the marks on the pattern. Do not turn the lining right side out.

  17. Create the closure loop by cutting a piece of fabric (6" x 1"). Fold the cut sides to the center, then fold in half lengthwise, pinning in place. Topstitch sides together. Press.

  19. Bring the two ends together, forming a loop. Pin it on the right side of the flap, with the loop pointing away from the edge of the flap. You will sew the ends of the loop into the seam of the pouch.

  21. Slip the lining over the pouch. Match up the flap and front edges, pinning in place.

  23. Clip at the clip lines on the pouch flap. This allows the flap to lay flat where it meets the side seams.

  25. Sew flap together, starting and ending at the marked clip lines. Sew the front edges, pivoting at the center of the vee.

  27. Trim and clip curves. Clip the the front at the vee. Be sure to not cut through your seams.

  29. Turn the pouch right side out, through the opening you left in the lining. Press along all seams.

  31. Turn the seam allowance of the lining, at the opening, inward and press. Now topstitch the opening shut.

  33. Push the lining into the pouch and press along the seams.

  35. Fold the flap down to find the proper location for the button. Mark it with thread, then sew the button into place.
