September 16, 2017

I have a small bathroom; the shower tile and floor are an off white. I am trying to decide what color would be a good color to paint the walls.

One of the best ways to give your bathroom an optical illusion is with paint. Light and brightly colored walls are a great way to do this.

Step 1
Use light colors such as pearl gray, yellow, pink, or even aqua.

Step 2
Keep all your tones the same within the same color range. Your bathroom doesn't need to be one color.

Step 3
Blend your wall color with your tile. When you blend the tile color with you wall it will make your room show off as a large room.

Step 4
Use the same color on your ceiling as you did on your walls. Avoid using white on the ceiling. This will make the room smaller because when you look in the bathroom your eyes will stop at the wall.

Step 5
Use light colors on your windows, molding and doors. Paint these a lighter color than your walls.

Step 6
You can also paint your shorter walls a shade lighter than your longer walls.

Step 7
Paint your ceiling one color and extend this color down your walls about 14 inches.

Step 8
Try painting with an arched design to make your ceiling feel taller.

Step 9
You can also add murals to your walls for accent.

I believe you should decide what colors YOU like or dislike and what about towels, shower curtain (if one), rugs and what color is your cabinet or door before making any decisions as you may have to live with your choices for a long time.

Step 1
If you like brown tones then you could use a soft tan and accent with brown stripe towels/rugs.

Step 2
If blues are your favorite then think about a sky blue and add dark blue stripe towels/rugs.

Step 3
Think sunny yellow with some orange accents.

Step 4
If it is a girl thing then look at lavender with nice purple stripe towels/rugs.

You can always add a mirror or small attention grabbing pictures or fixtures on the walls.

Paint comes in so many shades of every color so why not plan a visit to Home Depot, Lowe's, or a specialty paint store and look at what is available.

Go to "Lowes" or "Home Dept." and pick up several colors they offer on little card boards.

Step 1
Tape several on the card boards on the bathroom wall.

Step 2
Step back and see what color goes best with off white tile.

Step 3
Take the color card board back to the store and have them make up the color you choose.

Use something in pastel colours, maybe blue. It will make your bathroom look bigger.

Stick to a bright colour to keep it looking bigger than it is. Try a golden colour and use blue accents.
