My family room is open to the kitchen with a bar counter between both rooms. The kitchen color in green sage. What color should I paint the family room? I removed the shelf along the white wall and I'm mounting a flat 55 inch TV. I changed the kitchen swags to white linen.

Darker version of the green sage. Also pick up some of the colors in the rug. Treat the two rooms as one. The dark sofa needs something darker. You could also consider a frame of color around the flat screen, dark like the sofa or a band of strips of greens and browns to downplay the contrast of dark and light.
I like the idea of going a darker green sage Sheilah Link stated, but I would get solid color toss pills that pick up those in your multicolor rug.
I like the green in your kitchen. Personally, unless you have a lot of light coming into the living room I'd be reluctant to go a darker green because the sofa is dark. I'd probably stick with the same green with maybe one wall a darker color. I'm Betty Marie.
I'm seeing a blue/gray, which will pick up those colors in the large cover rug.
Here is the darkest sage I could pick from your kitchen. Surprisingly, it doesn't look very dark on a larger wall. I think this is a good thing. I would be reluctant to go much darker. You might want to get a sample from the kitchen and have a color mixed just a slight shade darker.
Accent throw pillows would be nice. I hastily picked a behind the sofa wall treatment. I can understand if you don't like it. But, whatever you do, please replace those heavy, dark frames with something else. My choice would be a frameless hanging.
Maybe something similar to the paint color below. I'd stay neutral and accent with colors off your rug. Saige green might be a nice color now, but it's a trendy color and may make your room feel dated in a short time.
