Gold Post Medal for All Time! 899 Posts This beautiful paper dahlia looks much harder to make than it is. Make one or more to decorate your walls. They can be made in numerous sizes too!
Source: Based on a project found on www.lovepomegranatehouse.com
Supplies:
- 1 (8 inch) cardboard cake circle (or thick cardboard cut to size)
- 4 dark purple 12 x12 scrapbook papers)
- 7 medium purple 12 x12 scrapbook papers)
- 4 light purple 12 x12 scrapbook papers)
- hot glue gun
- stapler
- scissors
- chenille stick or ribbon (for hanger)
Steps:
- Cut (16) dark purple 6 x 6 squares. Cut (26) 5 x 5 inch medium purple squares. Cut (15) 4 x 4 inch light purple squares.
- Roll each dark purple square into a cone and staple it at the bottom to hold it together.
- Apply hot glue along the edge and glue it in place.
- Flatten the cones at the ends. Then attach the first layer of "petals" to the cardboard circle, about 2 inches in from the edge. Glue the next petal directly across from the first one. Then do the same with two more petals, dividing the circle into quarters, as shown below.
- Now add a petal, centered between two petals. Then fill in that section with two more petals. Repeat in each of the other sections.
- Make your medium purple petals following the previous steps. Then start the second layer by attaching a medium purple petal in between two of the dark petals. Glue in place a little bit further into the center of the cardboard circle, as shown below.
- Now add another layer of medium purple petals. Again placing the petals between two of the petals in the previous layer and gluing them a little more towards the center of the cardboard circle. NOTE: You may not be able to put a petal in-between every petal in the previous layer. Just fit as many as you can.
- Make the light purple petals following the same instructions above. With these petals you will want to also curl the ends a little to make them easier to glue in place. Now attach a layer of these petals, fitting in as many as you can (approx. 9 petals).
- Now apply hot glue to the center of the flower and add a few petals to the middle to fill it in.
- Use hot glue to attach a hanger and cover it with a small piece of paper.
- Hang up your new paper dahlia and enjoy!
