Diamond Post Medal for All Time! 1,246 Posts My friend's mother was gardening and got bitten by a hobo spider. Her arm puffed up and she was rushed to the hospital where she stayed for several days. When she got out, she was paranoid about anywhere a spider might be lurking about. I really wanted to get her some welcome home flowers, but what if she worried about critters being in there? I decided to make her these paper daisies instead. They are full of dimension and beautiful colours... and totally spider-free! All you need is some paper and a pair of scissors.
Total Time: 90 minutes
Yield: 5 large daisies
Supplies:
- coloured paper or construction paper
- scissors
Steps:
- Fold one piece of paper in half.
- Take the upper right corner and bring it to the left, making a triangle on top.
- Fold the rectangle on the bottom upwards.
- Unfold the paper so it's just the paper folded in half again, then cut the rectangle off. Save it for later.
- Unfold and you will have two squares adjoined, side by side.
- Cut so you have two squares. Keep all the pieces you just cut, and start with one of the squares.
- Fold square up to the right to make a triangle.
- Bring bottom corner to upper left to make another triangle.
- Fold to the right to make an even smaller triangle.
- Bring the left corner into the right side, folding it flush up to the line. View this as 2 triangles, one long main piece as the base, and a tiny one sitting on top.
- Cut the long main base at the top end so it's like a raindrop or an ice cream. The small triangle on top will be completely cut off.
- Unfold once and you will have a long heart.
- Cut a tiny piece of the tip off the heart.
- Unfold and cut little a bit around the sides of each heart, then cut super short notches inside the hole. This will be the trick to keeping the pistil in place without any glue.
- Repeat the whole process with the other square, this time making the teardrop/ice cream shape a little bit smaller.
- Unfold and place on top of first flower.
- Take the reserved rectangle from earlier and fold it in half lengthwise.
- Cut at the fold so you have 2 thin rectangles.
- Take one of the strips and fold 1 centimeter in lengthwise.
- Cut thin strips into the paper, stopping at the fold.
- Take one end of the fringed paper and roll it tightly until you get to the other side. This will be the flower's pistil.
- Place the pistil inside the two flower sheets.
- Use your fingers to flare out the outer pistils.
