One of the fun 5th grade graduation traditions at my kids' school is to have each child make a paper shadow self portrait of them doing an activity that they enjoy. Then they line the hallway leading to their classroom with the shadows for graduation night! It is really fun to see how each kid represents themselves.
To make them, lay a large piece of black paper onto the floor. Have the child lay down on the piece of paper in a position that shows the action of the activity. For example, mid-stride as though they are running or in a diving position for a swimmer. Use a piece of chalk or a white colored pencil to trace around their body. Then cut out the body shape.
Some kids added extra details to their shadows such as a camera, football, or leotard (like my daughter's in the photo) to better show what their shadow is doing. They are really fun to create and make a great decoration on the wall!
