Don't buy pre-peeled garlic or spend the time doing it yourself. Avoid the garlicky fingers by putting your garlic in a jar, screw the lid on, and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. The first half the of the shaking will break the cloves off, and the second half will peel the skins right off the cloves. It's a great little workout, too! ;)

What a great idea and tip. I have never heard of this before.
Good Idea! But if you do happen to get the scent of garlic on your hands, just wash them with a paste of baking soda and dish detergent. Same for onion.
Love the sharp detail of your pictures.
Tried this and it didn't do a very good job. It would probably work if you had a lot of garlic in the jar but one clove not so good.
I had the same problem. After shaking and removing the unpeeled cloves I popped them in the mircrowave for 8-10 seconds and the skins came right off
It didn't work for me either...
Good idea with the baking soda fingers. Sometimes I get the garlic under my nail and it burns for hours! Betty, it works best for more than half a whole bulb. They smack into each other in the jar, helping hit the cloves from all angles.
