When cooked down, the candies make this beautifully vibrant hot pink syrup that is awesome in coffees, hot cocoas, and dessert recipes. No one will think this delicacy has anything to do with the holidays. Enjoy!

Total Time: 15 minutes

Yield: 1 jar

Supplies:

Peppermint Syrup as a Valentine's Gift - candy canes and sauce pan
 

Steps:

  1. First, crush the candy canes into smaller pieces with a rolling pin or in a food processor.
  2. Peppermint Syrup as a Valentine's Gift - crush the candy canes with a rolling pin
     
  3. Pour candy cane bits into a saucepan with the water.
  4. Peppermint Syrup as a Valentine's Gift - add crushed candy to a pan with the water
     
  5. Bring to a boil on high heat while constantly stirring with a whisk.
  6. Peppermint Syrup as a Valentine's Gift - bring to a boil on high stirring constantly with a whisk
     
  7. Lower heat to simmer and keep stirring until all the candy bits are dissolved.
  8. Peppermint Syrup as a Valentine's Gift - reduce to a simmer continue stirring until the bits melt

  9. As the syrup cools, it will thicken, then transfer it to a jar.

  11. Tightly screw on the lid, then tie a ribbon onto the neck.

I put a teaspoon in my coffee or in my hot chocolate. You can add some in brownie mixes for a lovely peppermint dessert. It's very vibrant and lovely :)
