If you're looking for an original way to send a personal message to a dad or other special man in your life on Father's Day, why not create his very own CD/DVD and design a case for him to store it in, too.
You can save words, pictures, music, or home movies onto a disc, place it in a case and it is ready to post - ideal for dads who work overseas or who are on active military service. And when your dad plays his disc, he can simply relax, sit back, and think of you all as a family.
Approximate Time: 45 minutes plus drying time
On the wrong side of a piece of card draw two squares side by side, each square measuring 5x5 inches(125mm x 125mm.)
Label the squares front and back as shown in the first photograph. On the front square draw two flaps, each measuring half an inch (15mm) wide.
Using scissors, cut out around the outside edges of both squares and taper the end of the flaps slightly as you go.
With a craft knife gently score along the three dotted lines.
Turn the case over so the pencil lines are on the inside and the right side is facing you.
Decorate the front cover of the case in a design that reflects dad's likes and personality. In the second photograph, I used collage scraps of paper to create a marine theme for a dad who likes snorkeling. Just let your imagination run wild and if you have children, get them to make a fun drawing of their dad or glue on a photograph of him.
To finish off, apply glue to both flaps; fold them inside the case and press down hard until the glue bonds to the back of the case. Let dry.
Finally, save some text, photos, music, or a home movie to your disc. Some ideas include: photos of a favorite family holiday, a poem or specially written message, a music track or an audio recording of a family member reading; or a home movie with your own family voice over's. Your disc can now be sent to dad to wish him happy Father's Day!>
