In my wallet
My concern with hiding a key in your wallet is if you ever lose your wallet. Having the house key in the same place with your identification that includes your home address could potentially be a problem. Just a thought, probably since my son has lost his wallet twice in the last month. :)
Oh no! Does your son remember where he left his wallet?
I had a freak accident when I forgot/lost my wallet ages ago when I was a teenager - I left my wallet in the shopping cart and I did not realize until several hours later. Someone returned it thankfully when I called the store asking about my lost wallet and I went to go pick it up! :)
Since then I learned my lesson and have never forgotten my wallet anywhere and hope to never lose my wallet.
I do only have 1 key in my wallet as back up and it's to get in the house gate only then someone would usually be home so I could ring the doorbell. Outside our gate we don't have a bell.
This works out encase I didn't grab my car keys on the way out or went somewhere with a friend, family member, etc and I will always have a wallet on me. Or else if I do bring all my keys as back up, they wouldn't fit in my wallet lol.
Of course this may only work for me though... :)
He couldn't find it so we went down to get him a new driver's license and bank card. Predictably, he found it about a week later while looking for the misplaced new one.
Hopefully, he will not misplace it again. :)
I hope he does not misplace his wallet again too. :) It was a big lesson for me.
Around here we hide our door keys under each others door mats. Without any identification of course.
Great! Now that this has been published on the internet it gives me a very good idea about where NOT to put a key! Under the doormat is one of the first places any burgler will look. I just make sure that one of the neighbors has a key. There are numerous websites that will sell you various versions of hide-a-key thingys. Probably the best one is what the real estate people use. It is a passcode-operated box that locks on your doorknob outside. You have to know the code to open the box the get the key out.
That was my first thought, DeBushe! A list for potential burglars!
I do like the idea of hiding your neighbour's key though - gave me a picture of a burglar trying all the doors in the street.
