Planetary Artwork - finished artwork One of the books we (my children and I) read was about the solar system. After reading a book, we like to have a hands on activity. Today's hands on activity is using watercolors to recreate some of the planets. We did Earth, Mars, Venus, and our moon. We used glittery watercolors and it's extra sparkly and pretty (according to my toddler girl).

If you don't want to make a solar system, instead you can use watercolor paint over the majority of a sheet of white paper, allow it to dry, and you'll have nice stationary paper.

Total Time: Varies on your child + drying time

Supplies:

watercolor paint + paintbrush
bowl of water
chalk
white paper
black construction paper
circular objects to use as templates
scissors
glue stick

Steps:

Have your child paint lines in shades of blue and finish up swirling the colors in a circular motion. We used sparkly glitter watercolors.

Continue this same concept with other colors to resemble the planets you want to make.

Allow the art work to dry. *If you were doing this as stationary paper you would try to fill up all the white spaces.

Trace the planets according to size using circular objects.

Cut out the circlular planet shapes.

You are ready to glue them onto the construction paper. Then, for finishing touches have your child make a circle for the moon and dots for the stars.
