The perfect way to keep snakes out of your yard is to plant mint around the border. Snakes hate it and you have a wonderful plant for cooking and teas. You could also lay hemp rope around the border of the yard, snakes won't cross it. The only thing left after that is to get rid of the snakes that are now trapped in the yard. LOL
Moth balls does it for me. If it rains a lot you have to redo them soon as they melt away!
Bordering the yard will not help. The snakes travel and nest underground, and come up through holes.
I redid my flower beds several years ago with Cedar shaving about 2-3 inches deep. I live close to a state park.
Mothballs are also harmful to humans. If you want something natural and harmless thats also repelling snakes.. You want lemongrass, marigolds, wormwood, Sarpgandha, peppermint, cinnamon and garlic to deter snakes. From my understanding mints and sweet grass are great for bugs but idk about soo much on snakes.
I've always been told to burn the snake where you kill it and it will keep other snakes from coming around that area. Just thought i'd share that.
I don't know about plants, though my dad swears by his hint. He sprays kerosene around the peremiter, hasn't seen a snake in years.
The only thing I have ever seen that gets rid of snakes is outside cats. Of course mine have a habit of bringing them to me to show off.
Don't know about the mint, had one hanging out in my mint garden trying to eat the baby rabbits that lived there. My weed wacker took care of that problem.
I have a big Garter Snake that lives in my mint so not sure about that one!
I have heard that mothballs or grinded up moth balls Repel snakes..
I have heard that mothballs will repel snakes
It works , bites , yard , boots before you go hunting ,etc
I'm not sure this mint method works, I have a pet corn snake (common rat snake/ red rat snake) that has a mint plant growing in his enclosure and he likes to curl up in it to sleep.
NEVER burn a snake! If it's poisonous it will release the toxins into the air and that's not good. Read up about that. Just a caution.. Wouldn't want someone sick!
If you put moth balls in a container with holes in the lid, they won't melt away in the rain. You can do several like that...
I have heard the same thing about moth Balls
First of all, it is not just any mint. It has to be peppermint. Secondly, it repels the snakes food source ( rats and mice) no the snake itself.
I just discovered a garter snake living in my mint. Thank you for your hint about peppermint. I will plant that and see if that will get rid of the snake.
Yes mothballs repel snakes. If placed under the house the Oder will circulate through your vents and your whole house and your clothes will smell like moth balls. My husband placed them in the garage under steps, where we store our suitcases! When we arrived at our daughters house she remarked your room smells like moth balls. You become nose blind to the smell. We might smell like elderly folks whose smelling ability fades with age.
We have a black snake that is not affected by moth balls in the least
