We have tried many things to get rid of fruit flies in our home, and this is hands down the easiest, cheapest, and most effective way. One of the most important things in order to catch them is the bait you put out. Fruit flies can be more attracted to some things more than others, whether it's vinegar, bread, actual fruit, and so on. After lots of testing here, we've found ours love a concoction of rice wine vinegar and juice from an overripe lemon. To make the trap, you just need to invert the top of a plastic bottle into its bottom. Easy enough!

jam and water works for wasps also
I find that apple cider vinegar with a couple of drops of dish washing detergent to be the most effective.
I like that idea but I thought since the bottle is real light weight it might tip over easily but after seeing Sandi's idea, posted in today's Thrifty tips, you can use a can to stabilize the bottle. I'll be trying this when the weather gets warm and the gnats come back. Thanks Attosa.
I do this but i use either white vinegar are apple cider vinegar and dawn dish soap are whatever dish soap that i have around but the litte mixture work.
I don't see your mixture recipe?
The original mixture is just rice wine vinegar and lemon juice. The proportions don't have to be exact. As the tip says, some flies are more attracted to specific substances so try what you may have at home and see what might work best.
