Printing Individual Tips

Ok. I'm fairly new to the internet and new to this website. I really enjoy the tips and recipes; however, often I would like to print up a tip or recipe or two but don't know how to do that without printing the whole newsletter. Since this site is dedicated to thrifty living, is there a way to do this without having to go through all that ink, paper and wear and tear on the printer?

Highlight with your mouse the part you want to print. (To do that, hold down the left mouse button and sweep over the part you want to print, it will turn blue). Then click on File on the top menu (upper left of screen) and then click on Print. When the print menu appears, choose Selection, then Print. (04/16/2006)

If you are using your own computer, or have a disk to save, you can copy selections and paste to a Word document and save. (Copy and Paste is under Edit on the top menu or Ctrl X to Copy & Ctrl V to paste) (04/16/2006)

What I do is cut and paste. I have a folder for Thrifty Tips, and when my daughter moves out on her own, I am printing out all these tips for her. I have found some awesome tips here. Also, recipies, suggestions and links to other sites. I'd say the most economical would be to cut and paste to a private folder, and in that folder have sub-categories such as food, household cleaning--general, laundry, cheap subsitutes for expensive products...Then if you want to print some for either a friend, or put in a small album, you can select the ones you want.

I do the same as Don as far as holding down the mouse and highlighting. But the print does'nt work for me.I go to edit and paste lights up.Click on it.Then I go to start on the bottom of the screen and go to all programs,go to accessories andscroll down until you come to notepad and click on it,a little box comes up and says edit, file.click on edit then file .then print will come up and click on it and it will print only what you highlight,If I do it like Don says I get the whole page.I don't know much about pasting and this is what works for me.I don't know much about filing either (04/17/2006)

Cutting and pasting works...

You could also just bookmark it on ThriftyFun and save paper and ink. :) (04/17/2006)

First of all no one is a dummy, we all have to learn sometime and there is always someone to help.
I learned mostly from my kids.

What I do is highlight the tip I want to save.
Just hold down the left mouse button at the top of the tip and pull down the mouse till everything you want to copy is highlighted.
When it is highlighted let go of the mouse and then hold down the control button, without letting go of the control button hold down the letter "c" button too, you only have to hold these two buttons for a second.
When you are done that press the "start" button on your computer, look for word pad and click on it.
A blank file will open up. Just click the left mouse button you will see a flashing black line, then you press and hold the control button then the "v" button and the tip will be copied.

Click the save button (small black square at the top) You will be asked to name the file, recipes, household etc.
and that's it.
Anytime you want to add to the file just go to start, word pad, when it opens, if you don't see the name of the file you want click open and all the files you have saved will come up, just click the one you want to open. (04/17/2006)

I forward the newsletter to myself, but before hitting the send button I change the subject line to describe the tip and I delete the items I don't want to save. This saves the tip as an email and saves paper because you don't print it out. I also created a folder in my email account titled "Tips" so they're easy to locate. (04/17/2006)

Hi there!! Just an idea (I do this myself!!) ...I highlight the area/tip I want to print, and copy this information, which I then paste onto a Word Document. From there I can adjust the font and size, add pictures etc and then print it out!! Hope that made sense :) (04/17/2006)

I can't really add anything more to what the others have told you here, they have already suggested everything I would have. But I do have a suggestion for if you need assistance learning your way around your computer. Go to The Computer Lady her web address is

www.asktcl.com

As I understand it she's a retired computer executive or teacher
www.asktcl.com or somewhere in between. Anyway she's really been a lot of help to me. You can sign up for her weekly newsletter with tips and guides that are free. She also has programs and download products that she sells but there is a lot of free info that is really valuable. I've only known about her for a couple of months but I've learned a whole lot in just that short time. If you are really stumped she can email you or if its something she thinks everyone can benefit from she'll write a whole lesson on it in the newsletter. I highly recommend her to anyone who needs help learning their way around their computer.(u)(/u) (04/17/2006)

I do as Don suggests and it works really well. Sometimes a recipe might have all sorts of ads around it that I can eliminate. There are times when I only want one paragraph from five pages. Yes...highlighting, print, selection and print. That`s the way to do it!! (04/18/2006)

I hit the edit button then click select all then click copy and then hit forward You can then come from the bottom of the page and hilight by holding down the left button on your mouse Everything you don't want to print, Hilight. Then hit print and it will only print what you don't hilight (04/18/2006)
