When having a garage sale, bright, clear signs are a must. I use neon poster board and paint on it with black paint. You can see them in time to stop at the sale without driving by and having to turn around. Use the same color for signs at the nearest intersection. That way they know it is the right sale. If putting them up at an intersection, make sure you put how far. Ex: 1 mile.
I put fliers up in the local store, library, and laundromat. If you have help on the day of your sale, have your help go to a few yard sales around and drop of fliers. Tell them you will mention their sale to people that come to yours. It is the neighborly thing to do.

Make sure you put support behind these neon signs. This paper is usually poster board. With the heat of the day and the wind, they fold in on themselves. Put your poster board on normal cardboard to give it support. Tape it or staple it together.
Also, make sure to remove the signs when your sale is over.
