If your dog or cat is healthy and you're looking for something that could improve their well-being, then pure pumpkin may be a good addition to their regular diet.
To be on the safe side, it's always a good idea to consult your vet before adding new food to their diet.

My son gives his dog a small spoon of pumpkin almost every day, and he says it has helped his dog's digestion.
It is said that it's like a probiotic for dogs and cats. Also, may help with fur balls.
Read about what is said and decide for yourself.

Be very sure you use pure pumpkin and never use pumpkin for pie filling as it has spices and other ingredients that may not be good for your pets.

Pumpkin usually comes in large cans and it is difficult to keep as you have to remove it from the can and find a suitable container but using a spoonful a day, it will last a long time (refrigerate for sure!).
You can find a small can at your local Dollar Tree for $1.25 just to see if your pets like it.

I would check with a vet before I gave my pet anything other than pet food.

It would be a good idea to consult your vet first before giving your dog pumpkin if your dog has any ailments.

Feeding plain canned pumpkin is great for digestion of dogs and cats, gives a great boost to nutrition.
"can help settle down an upset stomach , improve digestion, reduce anal gland problems, prevent hairball build up and help dogs and cats with both constipation and diarrhoea." www.thevetpractice.com.au/.../
Buy plain, unsweetened pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling, because it contains added sugars and may also contain xylitol, which can be fatal for dogs, or allspice and clove, which are toxic to cats. www.animalhumanesociety.org/.../pumpkin-safe-dogs-and-cats

It is safe to give your dog or cat pumpkin, but plain canned pumpkin. Pumpkin is a natural source of fiber, helps harden stool, clear the digestive tract, and return natural digestive state.

"Its high fiber and water content can help with constipation.
It contains the amino acids cucurbitacin, which paralyzes tapeworms and other intestinal parasites
It contains vitamin A and C, which help with vision and immune system support, respectively
The beta-carotene antioxidant helps slow the aging process
It contains plenty of zinc, which helps improve the quality of their coat
Pumpkin can help with hydration, as it is about 90% water
It helps remove hairballs in the intestine and passes them through the digestive system
It can even help with weight loss, as it helps your pet feel fuller, leading to less calories eaten." www.entirelypets.com/pumpkin-for-dogs-cats.html

1 teaspoon of pumpkin for small pets, 1-2 tablespoons for large pets. Simply place it with their regular meal.

Pureed pumpkin (with no added sugar or spice) can help dogs and cats with both constipation and diarrhea. Adding a tablespoon or two (in proportion to their size) to their regular meal is known to help keep them regular. It can also help dogs and cats with indigestion or upset stomachs.

If you are looking to take a few pounds off of your dog or cat, try reducing a portion of their food and replacing it with the same portion of canned pumpkin - their tummy will feel just as full.
Both raw and cooked pumpkin are safe for dogs and cats, of course, not a rotten pumpkin, but if your dog or cat has diabetes or chronic kidney disease, always ask your vet first.
You can give them canned pumpkin, but make sure its organic and doesnt have added sugar.
