Today I made split pea and ham soup, and I made too much, so I wanted to freeze the rest. When I need an extra set of hands to hold open the baggies so I can put in the soup that I want to freeze, and don't have my hubby around, I just use a giant quart size cup and place a baggie inside of it. Leave the top of the baggie overlapped on the outside of the big cup with a rubber-band around the top to hold it securely. I'm able to drop anything into that "baggied cup" and then pull it right out when it's filled, and do that for as many batches as I want to freeze.
I use this method for chicken pieces also, that way my hands that have touched the chicken never touch the outside of the baggies, which works perfectly. Then I put on the twisty tie and put in the freezer. No food ever touches the outside of the baggies. This way, I'm sort of killing two birds with one stone, having my baggies "held open" for me while I spoon in soup, or just drop in the chicken pieces and keeping things sterile on the outside of the baggies.
