I don't think I have seen anything about melatonin posted recently so I think it must have been an old post. I did a quick search and I don't think we have posted anything since about 2014.
Go to search at the top of the Thrifty Fun screen and type in Melatonin. Then scroll down through the ads listings till you get to past Thrifty fun columns. Hopefully you can find what you are looking for. Good luck.
ThriftyFun has a guide here www.thriftyfun.com/
There have been several articles about insomnia and usually that is what Melatonin is associated with.
I dealt with insomnia for many years, probably due in part to the pressures of my job and raising 6 children along with all of the other everyday situations we all seem to have.
After I retired, I began to spend a lot of my free time outdoors, getting to know plants and birds and this cured my sleeping problems.
I have friends who do use several different herbs for insomnia but I believe a lot of the 'improvements' we read about may be as much psychological as medical.
Then, of course, everyone has different reasons/things that may be causing their insomnia so it's possible that while one solution may help one person the same solution may not help another person.
Please be sure that you are very careful when trying something new and always start with the smallest dose available.
Some things to check?
Is it addictive? Doctors say Melatonin is not addictive.
What are the side effects?
What medications you are taking that may have adverse effects?
What are the risks and precautions?

hi thankyou ,it was a post recommending 3 mg of melatonin as a sleep aid,i just wanted to ask the lady if she had any more information on it,but i have since"googled" and i think i have enough info now-thankyou all very much for your answers xxx
If you are thinking about trying Melatonin why not start with the 1 mg instead of the 3 or cut the 3 mg in half as this may be all you need especially if you follow some of the good health suggestions for helping with sleep problems?
Remember; most natural solutions usually help you relax so you fall asleep faster (more relaxed) but they do not actually 'keep' you asleep as prescription 'sleep' meds usually do.
That is one reason natural herb meds do not usually have a 'hangover' in the morning.
Please be careful with any type of product you decide to try.
Stay safe.
I second this message! Start small and work up. For many people 3 or more mg makes people feel hung over and groggy. 1 mg or even 1/2 mg works for many!! We have the liquid and we use it for the humans and the dog too (VET APPROVED FOR BRAND WHICH IS HUMAN AND PET AND AMOUNT--NEVER, EVER, EVER GIVE TO A PET WITHOUT VET APPROVAL AND VERY PRECISE DOSING).
We all do better on 1/2 of the prescribed amount for our respective weights--which is pretty amazing!
Melatonin- should only be used as a short term treatment for sleep disorders and time changes like (Jet Lag) authorized from your Doctor. Here is some information from Johns Hopkins Medicine on the uses and affects of Melatonin- www.hopkinsmedicine.org/
hi! thankyou for your reply ,i found the links you gave very interesting.xx
I take 5mg a night, and am sleepy all day the next day. It makes it very hard to wake up, too. However, it's the only thing in the world that keeps my mind from racing so I can sleep. Sometimes I take 15mg and I feel the same level of fatigue and grogginess as I do with 5mg. With melatonin, nothing wakes me up at night either. I literally can't hear anything in my sleep with this. I believe this is a pro but some may not, the dreams! I have some very, very interesting dreams and some are downright creepy...but not like a nightmare though.
The only other downsides with this: I can't focus on anything very long and am noticing I am getting bored quicker, more depressed and I get annoyed with every little thing.
I need to stop using it because I have been taking it for a year and half every night. Online it says to only it use for 2 months.
hi! could you try reducing the dose over a week or 2?its not supposed to be addictive,is it?i understand ,its horrible to have your mind racing so you cant get to sleep-it happens to me sometimes, doesnt matter how tired i am.good luck xx
It's more of a mental addiction than a physical one. If you take it too long the worry that says 'if I don't take it, I won't sleep' will become a frequent thought.
yes i can understand that-i swear there is nothing worse than lying sleepless-too tired to read or get up and do something-and all your demons zoom in to haunt you.xxx
I think Melatonin was mentioned on thriftyfun here in the answer www.thriftyfun.com/
Melatonin is an effective supplement that can help you fall asleep, especially if you have insomnia.
thankyou i have found it helpful .x
