I got a granite cutting board as my first Christmas present from my then "new" son in law. I was thrilled. It was pretty and heavy and so easy to clean.
So today I fixed that and it's so easy. If you have dominoes, dice, a stack of pennies, jar lids, or scrap wood, you can do the same.
Simply turn the board over, use E-6000 glue to attach your support pieces to each other or to the board, weigh it down, let it dry and turn it over. Voila! I did mine with dominoes and I chose yellow and blue to match my kitchen. I used orange ones in the middle as I hate the color and won't see them.
Now I can clean the counter without making the board dirty.

Since I posted this, I added a new feature. If you have a plastic lid to a shoe box, an older plate or saucer, cottage cheese lid or something that will fit under the board.
You can pull it out to scrape the stuff into and put in the disposal or trash. This has really helped a lot.
I have about the same problem. I was given a beautiful slab of marble. It is heavy! I don't mind lifting it, but it lies so perfectly flat on the countertop, it's hard to get it up.
I will soon be having new kitchen cabinets installed. That means new countertops. I was thinking about gluing circles of felt to the bottom of the marble. I don't want anything to mar my new countertops.
Originally, my piece was a ledger from a bank building in my home town. The bank was torn down over 50 years ago. The piece is well over a hundred years old, but in perfect condition.
For that reason, I wouldn't think of using it for a cutting board. I do roll pie crusts and Moravian cookies on it.
I know it was given to be used, but it's such a beautiful piece. Aren't you afraid of scratching it if you use it for a cutting board?
Nope. It's going to outlive me, and most of my knives are not fancy or expensive. I posted this on another site and you wouldn't believe the comments about this thing damaging their good knives.
