I am male and having my 25th birthday party soon and would like to plan a real fun and unusual party. Something really different. Got any ideas?

I threw a cross dressing party last summer. It was so fun. The guys dressed as girls and the girls dressed as guys. I also had prizes for the best outfits. We also went out to Perkins in our outfits at midnight. It was the best party ever. (02/20/2006)

I love the crossdressing party idea. You might also try a famous people party. You could assign the people or make folks choose and have them dress accordingly. Have folks guess who is who. Award prizes. Dress as your favorite rock star and that will provide the soundtrack. Makes me wish I was 25 again. (02/20/2006)

You could have an "Alphabet" party where you pick one letter from the alphabet and everyone has to use their imagination to dress up as something beginning with that letter, prize to most imaginative or funny. We're having a birthday bash at home soon with a beach theme and I've found heaps of fun games to play on the net.

A friend threw a party he dubbed the "tacky winter ball". It was not at a hall or anything, just his apartment, and the idea was to wear that formal outfit you always knew you'd only wear once, but still kept in your closet anyway. A lot of women wore the god-awful bridesmaids dress they were obligated to wear (but kept in their closets anyway, because they were expensive), or an old prom outfit if it still fit.
I didn't have anything like that, but found a truly ugly dress cheap at a thrift store. Some of the guys borrowed from the back of their dad's or grandfathers closet, or went to the thrift store for a polyester leisure suit or powder-blue ruffled tuxedo shirt, or even just finding the worst necktie and shoes imaginable. You could also serve retro cocktails. The one I went to had a karaoke machine, and everyone sang so loudly and badly (en masse, usually) that the cops were called twice. It was loads of fun, but (thankfully) we had to shut down the karaoke machine early. You could add to the tackiness by renting a bubble machine or disco ball, or think back to the decorations at your high school dances. The possibilities are really endless here. (02/24/2006)
This was for my 24th birthday, but would do it again in a heart beat if I could.
Last year, I had a superhero party. I had a girlfriend make invitations for me. We put the picture of a superhero on the outside and invited everybody to come advising them to dress as a made up superhero. Nothing that anyone has already seen.
When everyone arrived I broke everyone into about 3-4 groups of people and had arranged for people to bring digital cameras. Each team was given an envelope and there was a list of everything that each team needed to take a picture of. I rated each picture with different points for the difficulty of the picture and then added a half point for each team member in the picture. This was to make a really cool scrapbook.
I then went on line and found different superhero's that most people might not know about (ie: not Batman or Superman or anyone else popular. There are a lot.) And for each superhero I had three different index cards: one with their given name, one with their chosen name, and one with a special ability or interesting fact about them. I then made each team sort through and gave them a point for each correct set they found.
Also I gave everyone 3 sets of beads when they came in the door. Each person was required to use everyone else's superhero name. Never their real names. If someone called someone by their real name they would have to give one beaded necklace to the person that caught them in the act.
At the end of the night I added the points for the first two activities and gave a prize to the winning team. They were little trinkets that weren't too horrible for guys or girls. I had bought $4 candy dishes and candle holders at Burlington Coat Factory. They were really nice and fancy.
Also at the end of the night I had a costume contest. I picked the three people who had gone all out or who had the best costumes. I also had the rest of the attenders pick between the three as to who had the best attire. Then I gave a first, second, and third place prize for each of them.
This party was so fun. My friends all went down to the mall to get the things required in the pictures. They had fun dressing in totally absurd costumes and then running around town and going to the mall.
A lot of my friends said it was the best party that had they had ever been to. I think it was, as well.
