I have been my mother's caregiver for 6 years. She passed away last week. I was told that I could receive some of her Social Security benefits, if I were her caregiver. Does anyone know the answer to this question?
Thanks.

If I am reading your question correctly, you did not receive any communication from the Social Security Admin but someone just told you that could receive some of your mother's SS benefits.
There are no SS funds for a caregiver after the death of a parent, child or anyone after the death of that person.
There are special cases where a caregiver can get SS funds while a person is alive but even that stops at the death of the person receiving care.
ONLY the Social Security office can answer this question correctly and they may answer this type of question over the telephone.
You need to call the Social Security office, and bring proper documentation when you get your appointment.
If you have the paperwork they sent you from SS then you should call them and take this with you. I'm sure you'll need her death certificate and a few other papers to go along with this.
On their website it does not state anything about caregiver, so it may vary case by case.
You can give them a call at: 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
Or, visit your local Social Security office : secure.ssa.gov/
Someone will help you further there. I am sorry to hear about your mother passing.
