Receiving Medicaid After Marriage?

My fiancé and I live together with our 3 children. The kids and I are on Medicaid. Food stamps already counts his income and all the income coming into our household now. Once we get married will we be able to receive Medicaid?

This is something you would have to call Medicaid and have asked since each situation varies especially since your fiancé and your income is accounted for already.

If he becomes part of your household, his income could bump you out of Medicaid. You need to visit the office and inform them of this.

He is already apart of the house hold lol but we are not married yet and if we get married would anything change hence they already take his income when we apply for food stamps and Medicaid every 6 months

Medicaid is a government program and I believe you are informed when you first become eligible how many days you have to report a change in income or family size. I believe you should have contacted Medicaid at the same time you informed your food stamp program about the changes in your income and family size.

  • Medicaid and Food Stamp programs are not the same and have different eligibility requirements.
  • You should contact your Medicaid agency as soon as possible and be very truthful when answering all of their questions.
  • Most of these government agencies (Food stamp program, Medicaid, IRS, Social Security) share information so be sure that you state all dates and facts correctly.
  • Your children may still qualify for Medicaid but unless you are disabled, that may change.
  • Then again, there may not be any changes - correct answers must come from your medicaid provider.
  • There are many differences in these programs according to the state you live in.
  • Some of your Medicaid benefits may/will be based on whether your fiancé has insurance coverage where he works and if he intends to add you and the children to his policy at a later time (after marriage).

  • Check on your Medicaid status now so you will know that everything is legal or find out if there is a problem.

Each case is determined on the factors in your home. You'll basically need to make an appointment with your social worker to discuss this one. It is hard to say what the laws are for this one and if they will change once you're married. But if they are already counting his income maybe nothing will change at all.
