My 4 year old grandson was recently placed into my care by DSS. He receives survivor benefits from the death of his mother. Since he has been placed with me by DSS should I be receiving his benefits to help take care of him?

If you are his primary guardian, you should be getting checks to take care of him. You need to contact Social Security to make an appointment with them. Ask what documents you will need to bring with you so that you won't need to make another trip.
I believe DDS and Social Security can help you. Normally a person who receives survivor benefits and is a young child, the adult who is their guardian will receive the money to help raise the child. Please contact the DDS service for all the paperwork and afterwards make an appoint with SSN.
You will need to make application with Social Security Administration to receive survivors benefits for your grandson.
You will need the papers issued to you by DDS and your SS number as well as your grandson's SS number. If you have complete papers from DDS most of the information you need should be on those papers.
