My son passed away last month and I know he worked for a while. He left four sons behind. Would there be anything that they can receive from Social Security survivor benefits?

If he worked long enough to receive enough credits they would be entitled. The boys' guardian should make an appointment with social security with documentation of their father's death and proof of guardianship.
Social Security is the only place to ask these questions as all cases are different and they will have all the facts to provide accurate answers.
The most important fact we can supply is that SS children's survivor benefits are only paid as long as a child is in school and the maximum age is 19 years old (unless the child is disabled).
Benefits may also depend on the deceased person's work record so these questions will have to be answered by SSA.
If any of the sons are under 19 years old then their guardian should take necessary papers (deceased person's SS number and any legal papers as well as SS numbers for the sons) to the SS office to start a claim.
If the sons are older they may qualify for $255 death benefit.
You have my deepest condolences on your loss!
As cybergrannie said, contact the Social Security office ASAP!
If he was a veteran, you can contact the Veteran Affairs department at explore.va.gov/
There are other websites out there to help locate ways to help like this one:

One last thing...if any of you need grief counseling, talk to the funeral director and see if he/she offers onsite grief counseling...ours does and it is a very worthwhile (and usually free service).
Sometimes just talking to people who are going through what you and his boys are going through is helpful to heal (and learn about services that can help!)
Prayers to all!
